Off the field with Richie...
Around Christmas each year, Richie Shaffer volunteers with the Police Athletic League Christmas Explorers Project, where police and members of the community work together to collect clothing, food and toys for needy families. In his free time, Richie enjoys playing chess, playing basketball, football and tennis and playing video games with friends. Richie considers his greatest achievement to be winning a gold medal in the 2007 Junior Olympic Tournament in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. When asked about his thoughts on being selected to the Aflac All-American Game, Richie said, "I was excited and honored to be playing with and against the best high school players in the country. I remember watching the game last year and thinking how really cool that would be to be chosen".

Role models...
Richie's favorite baseball player is Cal Ripken, Jr. because he was one of the most dedicated players ever to play the game and has inspired him to work hard. His everyday Role models are his mom and his dad – a 25-year veteran of the FBI.
