Coach Vickery has been involved in high school athletics since his graduation from San Diego State University in 1974. He currently teaches math and serves as the Athletic Director for his alma-mater, El Capitan High School in Lakeland, CA.

Steve is a 30 year veteran of coaching high school baseball and the 2009 season marked his 25th as Head Coach of the varsity baseball team at El Capitan. His teams are known for their aggressive style of play, sound fundamental skills and determination to find a way to win. During his tenure, the Vaqueros have recorded 22 consecutive playoff appearances. That impressive stretch has resulted in three San Diego County Division 2 CIF Championships, three runner-up finishes, six semi-final appearances and nine League Championships.

Coach Vickery has been involved in numerous organizations and committees devoted to the development of young athletes in the San Diego area. He is a lifetime member of the National High School Baseball Coaches Association, an American Baseball Coaches Association member and has served two terms as President of the San Diego Baseball Coaches Association.

He has compiled a record of 474-264-5 with the Vaqueros and has recorded 562 wins overall, which places him third all-time in San Diego County. In 1998, Steve was part of the inaugural class inducted into the El Capitan High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
